In addition to nine adult classes, we have separate
classes for preschoolers, for middle schoolers (grades
6-8), and for senior highs (grades 9-12).
Each adult Sunday School class also plans their
own fellowship activities and mission projects.
Confirmation class members attend the middle
school class, but also work with a mentor for study
and service projects leading up to their confirmation
to the church. A retreat for confirmands and mentors is
held at Joseph Badger Meadows and focuses on prayer.
Grades K-5 attend the
Amazement Park.
The Amazement Park is based on the workshop
rotational model where children participate in a
different workshop each week for a five-week rotation
period focusing on a single Bible passage or topic.
The different workshops include Bible Bytes,
which is a computer lab.
Thessalonians Theater is our drama and puppet
workshop.
Esther’s Eatery meets in the kitchen where food and
cooking is used to teach the story.
J.C. Cinema has a popcorn machine to accompany
a video.
Goliath Games and Skills meets in a large room for
lots of activity where they learn the who, what, and
where of the story through a variety of games.
Creation Carousel is our art workshop.
Each rotation is concluded with Celebration
Sunday, where we review and celebrate what we have
learned, and do journaling. Church volunteers painted the walls and
created the costumes in this large, friendly, and
inviting facility located on the third floor.
Children’s Activities
The activities Christian Education sponsored for
children in preschool to fifth grade include
Vacation Bible School, an
Easter Egg Hunt, and
a lock-in for grades 3 to 5.
A total of 19 children attended Joseph Badger Meadows
summer camp programs this year.
Youth Activities
The senior high youth and junior high youth groups are
very active.
They meet regularly on Sunday night and include
the youth music program.
We have youth serving on national committees
such as National Presbytery Youth Council and the
Synod Youth Connection Design Team.
The youth also attend conferences such as the
National Youth Triennium, Youth Connection ‘03, and
the New Wilmington Missionary
Conference.
The senior high youth go on a mission trip every other
year.
Recent trips include
West Virginia (‘02), and Atlantic City (‘00), with
a trip to Massachusetts being proposed for 2004.
Youth and several adults have served various
communities with housing improvements, child care,
soup kitchen help, and other projects.
Other community service projects completed by both
youth groups include 30-hour famine, the Souper Bowl,
and the CROP Walk.
The youth also serve our Church as well.
The youth groups prepare and serve a free
Soup Lunch each year,
participate in the pantry
packing and preparing care packages for college
students.
Youth also volunteer to assist with both VBS and
Amazement Park, serve on Christian Education
committee, Deacons and other committees. Each year, the Confirmation class plans
and leads the Easter Sunrise Service.
The youth also have many fun fellowship opportunities:
Junior high and senior high retreats to Joseph Badger
Meadows, Confirmation class retreat, campouts,
whitewater rafting and canoe trips, hayrides, outings
to Laser Tag, Cedar Point, Six Flags,
a summer swim party and
picnic, lock-ins, sledding, Christmas Caroling,
video scavenger hunts, mystery dinners, and attending
live productions such as Dead Serious about Life.
