DMA

Our meeting on April 17 will have Pastor Hazelton of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kent doing one of her impersonations.  She has been with us twice before doing Martha and Sarah. This time she will do Elizabeth as told by Mary.  Everyone loved this program and that is why she has been invited back.  Covered dish lunch at 12:00 and Program at 1:00 Everyone invited - See you there.

Prayer Lab

Experience real prayer connection with others … with God

On Tuesday evenings you have the opportunity to come to the church sanctuary to pray and to be prayed for. The church will be open to you from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on a regular basis on Tuesday evenings for you. This is also an opportunity for you to invite someone you know who needs prayer to come as well.

The format is Spirit led … which means that no two Prayer Labs will be alike. We will be responding personally to the needs of those who come, praying the wisdom, compassion and power of God for all who participate. Our vision with this prayer opportunity is to give people a more intimate time with God that is prayer-intensive to see needs met and lives changed … a ministry to those within the church family as well as to the community.

It is all a part of our larger church vision to see all people become all they can be in Jesus Christ.

Men’s Breakfast

Guys, plan to join us at the Silver Swan on Front Street for breakfast on Saturday, April 19 at 7:30am.  We eat at a very reasonable price, talk a whole lot and center in on a devotional of a practical nature to help us as men.

Good Neighbors

As you probably already know, Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors will be moving to Sill School soon - a somewhat daunting task.  To make the task easier, we respectfully ask that you stop donations of clothing through May 1.  Food and monetary donations will be accepted at our current location, 1601 Munroe Falls Avenue, until May 1st.

With gratitude for your continuing support, Lee Stager

Graduate Recognition

The Christian Education Committee will be recognizing all high school and college graduates in June.  If you will be graduating from college anytime in 2008, or graduated in 2007 and were not recognized, please contact Marilyn Stroble.  We want to be sure that we do not miss anyone.

Car Wash Fundraisers for Sr. High Mission Trip

On May 10, the Sr. High Youth Group will be ready and willing to make your cars sparkly and shine.  Bring your cars, trucks, vans and SUVs to the Church parking lot between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm for a wash, vacuum, window washing and tire shine (we are a Full Service facility).

Donations will be accepted for our Mission Trip that we will be taking June 14-21 to Charleston SC. You can even have your car washed while you eat at the Soup Lunch in Fellowship Hall.  How can you pass up this opportunity?  We hope and pray each month for good weather.  We will be looking for you… each month!

The Power of Prayer Available for You

It is not too late to consider and schedule April 27 through May 1 for the up‑coming Dunamis Conference in Holland, MI. The topic is Prayer, and it emphasizes a growing intimacy with Jesus Christ as we learn to listen to God, intercede for others effectively, and learn to pray with vision and power.

For more information you can talk to those who have been on prior Dunamis Conferences…Bea Holbert, Sue Kemmerline, Lorrie Mariani, Ross Slaughter or Wade Holbert. Information can be obtained by talking with Pastor Slaughter and going to the website of Presbyterian-Reformed Ministries International at www.prmi.org.

Year Of The Bible 2008 - Sticking with the Word

2008 will be a special year in the life of United Presbyterian Church.  As an entire congregation, we will be setting out on an adventure together.  We will be reading through the whole Bible in one year.  Here is your chance to:

Read the entire Bible on a systematic basis

Become familiar with the book that has influenced lives of millions from ancient  times to the present

Draw strength and encouragement for your daily life

Participate together with many in our congregation in a join project with a common goal.

You may find more details about these classes at www.cfupc.org.

Did You Know?

We have a Prayer Group.  They meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the church library.  They would love to have you join them.  We all know the power of Prayer!!!

Multimedia Volunteers

We will be setting up the media operator schedule for the next year. Operators are scheduled for a month at a time, and we offer on-the-job-training! If you are interested, please e-mail Kirk Worcester, kirk@neo.rr.com.

Are you upgrading?

Upgrading what?  Well, your computer of course.  As we all are aware, computers become outdated very quickly.  We have been very appreciative of the computers we have in Bible Bytes, but they are becoming quickly outdated for the software we want to use.  If you have a computer(s) with the following requirements (Or Better!), that you are no longer using, please consider donating it to the church.

The minimum we ask for is: 600 MHz Pentium or Athlon processor, Windows 98 operating system, 6 GB hard drive, 128 MB RAM.  We would also need any Windows and system restore disks/CDs that go with the computer.

If you have one to donate, contact Jon Loresch or Marilyn Stroble.

Pantry

July and August packing is open for volunteers, please consider helping.  The Pantry packing schedule is posted in the office hallway.  If anyone can help during any of the months that are open, please contact Janice Kurtz, memawjmk@aol.com.   Thank you!

Amazement Park Offering

A reminder to parents that the children's offering goes to support a child through the Christian Children's Fund.  We support Mbaye Sene from Senegal, and have been his sponsors for a year now. Mbaye lives with 11 other family members in a two room house with no electricity nor running water.  He goes to primary school and enjoys playing soccer with his mates.  His father is a farmer and his mother is an unskilled housewife. The children send letters to him, as well as receive letters, pictures and drawings from him.  Everyone is excited when we receive mail from him.  For us to continue to support Mbaye, the children need to bring an offering in on a regular basis.  This has been a wonderful experience for the students as well as the Amazement Park leaders.

What Do Deacons Do?

The main function of the Deacons is to take care of those who are ill or otherwise shut-in and are unable to attend services at the church as well as compassion for those who are grieving. The Deacons have six committees: Calling and Caring, Compassion, Homebound, Hospital, Pantry and Prayer Group. During the year, the Deacons perform special functions like making spring decorations and Christmas cheer bags for those on the shut-in list as well as delivering Easter and Christmas flowers. They also gather toiletry items for Hope Totes at Haven of Rest and pack these items five times a year to be distributed to the homeless population in the greater Akron area.  .

Helping Hands

Did you know we have twenty-one "Helping Hands" volunteers?

These folks have signed up for one or more of the following activities:  reading, letter writing, minor household chores, yard work, transportation, pantry delivery to home-bound, babysitting, elder care, computer help, tax preparation, sewing, run errands, packing, meal prep during rehab,& short term pet care.

We also help by finding youth to mow lawns (for pay) and to identify solutions for those who need permanent or regular household cares.

Want to join in this ministry to our congregation?  Call Joanne Shaw at 330-920-8330 to sign up or stop into the ADVENTURERS classroom on Sunday morning.

Need help.... call the same number.

Used Ink Cartridges News

For those who are supporting the senior highs with their used ink cartridges, we ask that you DO NOT put them in plastic bags.  That ruins them, and we then do not receive any money for them.  Also, if you have the box for the laser cartridges, we would appreciate that you put the old cartridges in them.  If not, that is fine.  We thank you for your support.  Contact-Marilyn Stroble, dce@cfupc.org.
