POSITION DESCRIPTION: Contemporary Music & Worship Leader

PERIOD OF WORK: Part Time; Annual Contract (+-13 Hrs./Wk.)

PURPOSE:

  • Lead, direct, and empower a vibrant and engaging Christ-centered music ministry among those who worship in a manner in accordance with Presbyterian tradition in contemporary settings.

REPORTING:

  • Accountability to the Pastor/Head of Staff:

  • Personnel Committee.

  • Worship Committee.

  • Ultimately to the Session of the Congregation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a faithful and passionate follower and disciple of Jesus Christ.

  • Hold a degree in music or comparable experience.

  • Evidence a collaborative and collegial spirit.

  • Demonstrate organizational skills.

  • Possess good interpersonal skills for communicating and team building.

  • Be self-motivated, creative and open to innovative possibilities.

  • Pass a background check in order to work with children and youth according to the Child Protection Policy.

MINISTRY LEADERSHIP AREAS:

The Contemporary Worship & Music Leader shall, in collaboration with the Ministry Team, lead, resource, develop, and enrich this congregation’s musical life. Specifically:

  • Incorporate music consistent with the theme of the worship service and the Christian seasons, coordinating the music with the Pastor

  • Participate in the worship services as a singer or instrumentalist.

  • Hold regular rehearsals with musicians and the Praise Band.

  • Help to identify musical talent and engage people in groups, ensembles, and quality solo work, acting as a catalyst for bringing out talents in others, including those with no musical education.

  • Maintain communications in a timely manner with the pastor, administrative assistant and church volunteers.

  • Utilize special programs including dramas, musicals, retreats, and events to enhance the worship and outreach of the congregation.

  • Coordinate and communicate program schedule in a timely manner with the pastor, administrative assistant and church volunteers.

  • Develop, compile and coordinate projected images for worship services.

  • Possess knowledge of, set up, test and be responsible for the microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and other sound and visual equipment.

  • Participate in Staff Meetings and the monthly Worship Committee meeting.
